For the span of over ten years as a litigation attorney, I have had a unique vantage point to witness firsthand the pains, frustrations and the challenges the diaspora community face when managing affairs from afar. Too often, they are exposed to misinformation, unreliable coordination, and the risks of fraudulent dealings. I have handled matters where clients based outside Uganda entrusted their relatives to buy land for them — the money was sent but no land was bought. In one instance, the brother exaggerated the price of land two-fold and a fake agreement was sent to the client in the diaspora. In another instance, a client in the diaspora for over eight months kept sending money for building a home; on return, she found no home but stories. Home and Away Services is founded on those perils to bridge that divide.
